Owen grabs pole in a One hour Qualifying thriller at the Armor Bathurst 12 Hour

E-mail Print PDF

Qualifying had to bend to weather as rather than a split session, event stewards elected to run a combined one hour session.

The change did nothing to dampen the Evo domination of the weekend as the Mitsubishi cars filled the first 6 spots on the gird.

Pole went to fastest man from Friday Steve Owen, who despite the conditions posted his fastest time of the weekend a 2:26.8553. Owen however was forced back out to defend his time as Glen Seaton had the Pro-Duct Evo just behind in a time of 2:26.9200.

Filling the third spot was Jason Bargwanna who was in the other Pro-Duct Evo and couldn't quite match his team mates pace.  His time of 2:27.7881 was nearly a second slower but meant he was 1.3 seconds than the fourth placed TMR Australia Evo.

The first non evo runner was the BMW of Eastern Creek International.  Their time of 2:29.8089 was some 2.9 seconds off the pole pace.

Owen however reflected at the post qualifying press conference, that in a similar position last year things had gone very wrong in the race.  He joked they ran in the "…Bathurst 12 minutes last year".
