After the season opener in Bahrain many feared for the state of racing in Formula 1. As the paddock packs up and heads to Malaysia, the Albert Park circuit delivered a ripper of a race that seemed to have everything.
Coming into the Melbourne Grand Prix weekend, many were saying the Red Bull car had a real advantage over the field. The team confirmed those thoughts with a lock out of the front row of the Grid as Sebastian Vettel made it 2 poles from 2 races. Joining him on the front row is local hero Mark Webber, who for much of Qualifying looked likely to steal the pole himself.
It was a day of changing weather at Albert Park, as the morning session was run under a hot sun and session 2 had rain, fading light and a big drop in temperture.
Lewis Hamilton has twice visited Australia and both times only seen Melbourne and the Albert Park Circuit. This trip he took a detour and flew into Sydney.

In a unique event, two reigning champions took to the time at Albert Park today to swap their rides. Thanks to their shared title sponsor Vodadfone, McLaren Mercedes and 888 racing both provided a ride for the 2 teams Champions Jenson Button and Jamie Whincup.
