2008 Bathurst Preview: Ford duo eye rare hat-trick

TeamVodafone pair of Craig Lowndes and Jamie Whincup are aiming for a rare feat by attempting to win a 3rd Bathurst 1000 race in a row this weekend. Should they achieve this goal they will be only the first pairing to acheive this goal in 24 years and the first Ford team in only 40 years to complete the rare hat-trick.

Hot on their heels however will be the Ford Performance Racing pair of current 2nd place holder in the championship, Mark Winterbottom and previous Bathurst back-to-back winner Steven Richards as well as leading Holden drivers, Garth Tander, who currently holds first place in the championship and 5 time Bathurst winner, Mark Skaife.

$30 million in 30 days invested into V8 Supercars

V8 Supercars Australia will announce in excess of $30 million in new deals for the sport in the next 30 days. The equivalent of $1 million for every day of October will be injected into the sport through six new ‘super deals’ that have been negotiated and agreed in recent months.

Beginning this Friday at the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000, V8 Supercars Australia will start rolling out the announcements that include $9 million in new sponsorship deals and $21 million from new long-term contracts with permanent Australian circuits.

This is on top of the existing sponsorship and event agreements that has V8 Supercars positioned as a power in the Australian sporting landscape.

HRT to Celebrate GM Holden's 60th Anniversary at Bathurst

The Toll Holden Racing Team will help GM Holden to celebrate its 60th anniversary by rolling out a special commemorative livery on its two racing cars that will contest the Supercheap Auto Bathurst 1000 on Sunday, October 12.

The sides of HRT’s distinctive day-glo red and pearl VE Commodore racers will each sport a 3D chrome-silver version of the team’s famous racing lion, while the bonnets will feature a striking chrome-silver 60th anniversary logo.

GM Holden Chairman and Managing Director Mark Reuss said the combination of the company’s on-track success and HRT’s winning heritage at the Bathurst classic created a natural opportunity for all Holden owners and supporters to celebrate the passing of six decades since the launch of Australia’s own car, the 48-215, in November, 1948.

Holden confirms less cash for teams

Holden managing director Mark Reuss confirmed the manufacturer would probably have to tighten its spending on the V8 series as the global downturn and soaring petrol prices savage big car sales.

But any funding cuts were likely to be offset by more creative ways of spending Holden's money in V8 racing, especially using the series' move to environmentally friendly fuel next year to spruik the company's "green" credentials and cars.

The V8 Circus will head across the Tasman for the Hamilton 400 which has had its ticket levels capped to only 50000 next year due to over crowding in the tight street circuit.
